YOUTH PLAINTIFF

Mica K.

Age: 11
Hometown: Missoula, Montana

Mica was only four years old when he watched a film with his parents called “Chasing Ice.” While Mica’s parents weren’t sure he would understand the film, he did – and he was distraught to learn about the climate crisis that his parents helped him write a letter to Montana Senator Jon Tester.

By the age of 10, Mica was standing up in the fight against climate change in every way he knew how. With Sunrise Movement, he protested against the Keystone XL pipeline, including commenting on the Keystone XL Environmental Impact Statement. Mica also got involved with Families for a Livable Climate, protested with Fridays for Future, and educated people about the effects of climate change.

Being active outdoors is important to Mica. He enjoys mountain and road biking, hiking, backpacking, fishing, and running, including training for half marathons with his dad. He treasures the wilderness in Montana: glaciers, forests, and even the small pikas he sees and hears. But he fears that climate change will destroy it all.

Mica was 11 years old when he joined the lawsuit, explaining “I became a plaintiff because I could see how the negative impacts of climate change were harming me and my daily life, and I was learning that the dangers of climate change would keep getting worse as I grow older.”

If the people with power to change things are listening, they are not acting like they care. It is my hope that the judge will agree with us and find that what my government is doing to make the climate crisis worse is wrong.
